Gargnano Lake Garda

Gargnano is a fascinating place a jewel among the green of the olive trees and the blue waters of the lake. Full of history and tradition there are traces of Gargnano since 973 in a document concerning a donation to the cathedral of Verona.
In the XIII century it became a spiritual and religious centre when the Franciscans founded their convent and the Church of San Francesco in 1285. In the first  half of 1400 it was the main town of the “Magnifica Patria”.
Bogliaco, a small village nearby Gargnano was a flourishing centre for the production of olive and lemon trees. In the 700 century it become more important thanks to the Counts Bettoni, who built their majestic Residence after the project of Adriano Cristofali.
During the Republic of Salò the 2 Villas Feltrinelli, became the home of Mussolini and his family. One Villa is today a branch of the university of Milan .
On the hills around Gargnano one can admire the typical churches of San Pier D’Agrino and of Sacro Crocifisso.
