Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy with an area of 370 Km2 . It is divided into 3 regions: Lombardia, Veneto and Trentino. The three Provinces (Brescia, Verona and Trento) differ greatly in landscape, tradition and culture. In the province of Brescia, located on the west shore of the lake (especially in the small towns of Salò, Gardone Riviera, Gargnano and Limone) we find the best and most unspoiled sceneries. In this area the tourism has developed less than in the Trentino and especially the Veneto regions. In fact, on the east shore of the Verona province, there is mass tourism with night clubs, amusement and water parks etc.
Lake Garda offers stunning sceneries and diverse landscapes. In fact you can find sandy beaches as well as wilder but maybe more fascinating cliffs.
The winds of Lake Garda have evocative names (such as Balì or Suer) and they have always been one of the “engines” of Lake Garda and of its tourism. Lake Garda is a unique and ideal location for several water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and paragliding. In Gargnano it takes place “La Centomiglia” probably the most famous and important European regatta in closed waters. Not only Lake Garda is well known for its water sports but also it is becoming more and more a holiday destination for mountain bikers, trekking lovers or simply by those who enjoy walking in an unspoiled countridside.
Lake Garda has been the travel destination of many famous travelers, among them we remember Ezra Pound, Göthe and D.H. Lawrence. Most of all, in the past 2 centuries the lake has been one of the most beloved travel destinations of German tourists. But not only also Austrian, Swiss, English Dutch and American tourists. Tourism has made possible the flourishing of places like Gargnano, Salò, Torbole, Lazise, Bardolino, Garda, Torri.
In recent years the continuous touristic development of the lake, together with an excellent preservation of its natural heritage, has attracted more and more visitors also from countries such as England, Spain, Holland and more recently from Russia and the East.
Such a long tradition of hospitality makes lake Garda one of the best organized travel resorts in Italy. It offers Bed and Breakfasts, Residences, 3 – 4 – 5 stars Hotels, to satisfy all types of holiday requirements in terms of comfort, wellness, luxury and elegance.
In the last few years the most ancient and beautiful villas around the lake have been restored and valorized. The most important of them is the Villa once home of a very famous Italian poet, named Gabriele D’Annunzio, known as “Il Vittoriale degli Italiani”. Today it has become a museum dedicated to the poet's life and work.
The valorization of the natural heritage has guaranteed the survival of other ancient noble Villas, which today have been turned into excellent hotels. Among them we cannot forget the 2 Villas of the Counts Feltrinelli. One Villa is located in Gargnano and the other - our Villa Sostaga – is located on a hill, 8 Km far from Gargnano (in the small village of Navazzo) and from its location it is possible to enjoy probably the most beautiful panorama of the Lake.
Lake Garda is not only the beauty of the lake but also the blooming countryside of its morainic hills and the mountains which surround it. The cable car of the Monte Baldo offers its visitors a breathtaking view of the entire lake. The “Parco dell’Alto Garda”, which is located in the hinterland of the “Riviera dei limoni” from Salò, Gardone Riviera, Gargnano and Limone, has kept its natural unspoiled heritage.
The “Parco dell’Alto Garda” and most of all the “Valvestino” route are still quite unkown to the mjority of tourists but they offer their visitors truly unique sceneries such as the Valvestino lake (a man made dam), mountain landscapes (only 45 minutes away from the lake shore) and the hay-lofts at Cima Rest.
in the past 20 years the hills on the south shore of the lake, (further down after Salò, Manerba and Desenzano), have known a big oenological growth. These areas offer unforgettable views of the lake together with the perfumes and the colours of the vineyard. Here the wine is an excellent product and it reaches its peak in the not far Valpollicella region with the famous Amarone, Lugana, Groppello, Bianco di Custoza, Bardolino and the more and more appreciated Chiaretto. Among the products of the lake one cannot forget the production of olive oil.
Like in every Italian region also the restaurants in Lake Garda offer a good food selection. The care and respect for tradition blends with the freshness of modern cooking. It will be a pleasure to discover the variety of lake fish and the several ways in which it can be prepared.
Lake Garda offers also a wide choice of entertainments, among them the most important one is Gardaland (the biggest amusement park in Italy) and also Movie Studios, Caneva World, Parco Giardino Sigurtà and Parco Zoo Safari. To relax from the stress of modern life there is a wide choice of thermal spas located in Sirmione and Lazise.
If you are looking for a Hotel in lake Garda for your holiday or maybe just a restaurant for a short and romantic escape, this wonderful lake will surprise you every moment with its colours, flavour and perfumes that will always remain in your memory.
Kissed by the sun, Lake Garda has a mild climate for most of the year. For centuries it has been visited by the most famous travelers and also by less famous but not less important tourists. Many studies have shown that words such as Lago di Garda, hotel Lago di Garda (alberghi lago di garda, hotels lago di garda ecc) are the most clicked on the web, especially by foreign tourists looking for a holiday resort in Italy.
